Body & Soul Week 5 Update

Newportchurch.com

Well, I have completed 5 weeks of Body & Soul {into my 6th} and I still feel fabulous!  I have lost 13 pounds!!  I am basically at a healthy weight but still want to build lean muscle.  I am going to stay on the “weight loss” plan for a few more weeks and then probably switch to the maintenance plan.  The maintenance plan is pretty close to the same except that you are allowed more protein 🙂

Here are a few tips for the week:

Consistency is key!  This is a lifestyle, not a diet to get you skinny really quick.  When you’re eating clean, not skipping any meals, and exercising 4-5 times a week, your body is functioning at it’s maximum.  Believe me, it feels so good!

Create achievable goals and focus on the now.  Picture where you want to be but break it into bite size goals {daily}.

Keep your spiritual health in check above all.  Being beautiful on the inside, shines through on the outside.

We are finished with our course at church but I will be continuing the Body & Soul lifestyle.  I will also give you updates and share recipes that we love.  I strongly encourage you to give this a try!  It will change your life!

Body & Soul Week 4 Update

Well, I have completed 4 weeks of Body & Soul {into my 5th} and I feel fabulous!  I have lost 12 pounds!!  Can I get a woot woot?!  Above and beyond that, I’ve gained freedom!  I feel so good, so energetic, so strong!  I know that I still have a long way to go in the “strong” department, but each day I am moving in the right direction.  This is such an amazing lifestyle.  It’s already so ingrained in me, the diet, the exercise, the snacks, etc.  I can’t explain it, you just have to do it!  Please join me in this amazing lifestyle!  It will change your life, it will set you free!

Here are a few tips for the week:

Begin with the end in mind.  Picture what you want, set a goal.  If you set up for failure, that’s exactly what you’ll do!

DO NOT miss any meals or snacks!!!  This will slow your metabolism and cause your body to store fat {who wants that?}

When doing strength training, be sure the muscle group you’re working is engaging.  If you’re “feeling it” somewhere else, you’re doing it wrong.

Please, please, please, I cannot encourage you enough, to give this a try.  No matter what your situation is right now, even if you think you’re pretty healthy.  This will lead you to a strong, healthy life.  This will give you freedom and the strength to live the long life that God wants you to!

2012 Goals Update

last minute trip!

Just wanted to give you all an update on mylast minute trip!  Things are going great so far!  A few little failures, but I’m not giving up.  What are your goals for 2012?

Live the Body & Soul Lifestyle –  Going strong!  You can read my most recent update last minute trip!.

Drink 6 water bottles a day – Yep!

Walk 4 – 5 times per week – I have continued with this and am changing to 3 days walk or elliptical and 2 days weights

Weekly or Bi-Weekly Menus – I have failed at this! But, that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up!

Read 2 Books each month – Done with Body & Soul.  Very little left of last minute trip!.  I am loving It’s Time and will probably re-read it a little slower.  It’s 101 to change your life so I think I’ll maybe read 1 per day to really let it soak in!

Be more involved in ministry – Got Parker into the Jr. High group which makes me extremely happy and extremely sad.  How can I have a Jr. Higher??

Attend Sisterhood Weekly – Yep!

Coupon Binder – Tossed TONS of expired coupons and clipped new ones.  Now I need to get them in the binder!

Complete 12 DIY projects – Haven’t completed January’s but I do have the supplies… maybe I’ll get it done this week 😉

Write my eBook!!! – Ideas are being jotted, lots of brainstorming going on here

Date Night – At least once a month with the hubbs! – We’ve actually been on a few thanks to our last minute trip!

Continue to Tithe Weekly – Yep!

Increase our Emergency Fund to $5,000 – Barely getting by right now, but work should be picking up soon so we can get this tackled!

And, my one big “dream” – My, “If only we could,” is to go to Europe.  Still in talking phase but at least the hubs knows that I am very serious and we are going to make this happen!

Body & Soul Update: Week 3 Complete!

So far, so good!  I cannot emphasize enough, how much I am loving Body & Soul!  It is changing my life, one day at a time.  I have NEVER felt this good, this strong, this committed!  It really is a lifestyle and it really does work!  I am down 10 pounds { Hubs is down 11} and feel amazing. My hubby and I had a last minute trip to Las Vegas and stayed on track.  We even hit the gym at 7:30 am {pictured above}!  There is no fad diet in this world that could make you feel as good as I feel right now.  I strongly encourage you to join me on this life long journey.  Whether you need to lose weight, gain weight, maintain weight, or just get healthy, Body & Soul will work for anyone.

I am continuing my workouts 4-5 times per week.  I’ve actually replaced 2 of my cardios with weight training.  We don’t have a gym membership, but I have a set of resistance bands and a few weights that are working just fine.  Weight training will keep your body in fat burning mode for up to 24 hours {while cardio will actually only burn for a max of 12}.  I also learned from our trainers that you shouldn’t do weights right after your cardio workout.  When you do your cardio, you are using all of your “fuel” which will cause your muscles to use themselves as fuel instead of using fat.  My schedule is not conducive to 2 workouts per day so I have decided to do my cardio Monday Wednesday Friday and my weights Tuesday Thursday.  Plus, we usually throw in something physical with the whole family on Saturdays.

It really isn’t as hard as you think to fit some workouts into your schedule.  I think the “I don’t have time” excuse is a little wimpy actually!  We ALL have the exact same amount of hours in a day.  We ALL have 168 hours per week.  I’m pretty sure there are some time wasters you can get rid of to exercise.  If I exercise a max of 4 hours in one week, I still have 164 hours to do whatever else I want or need.  It’s time to stop excusing yourself and get your body moving!  Remember, with God, all things are possible!

They key things I took from our session last night are:

Keep your mind fit above all else.  If your focus is on God and truth, you can stay disciplined with your health.  Your body was not meant to have authority, your mind was.  If you give your mind the authority instead of making your decisions on feelings you will succeed!

You also need to “pay the cost up front.”  This means you need to have a why.  It needs to fuel your fire.  You need to make these decisions for the people around you.  You cannot do God’s work and take care of those you love, if you aren’t fit and healthy.  One of our trainers, Parker, put it this way, “How much energy will it take to lift someone who is more broken than you?”

Write it down!!  Write your workouts down on your weekly schedule.  It gives you the feeling of commitment and you’re more likely to actually follow through with it!

I hope that this can be an encouragement to you!  What kind of life do you want to lead or wish you were leading?  Are you healthy enough to be living that life?  Are you strong enough to chase your kids around the park?  If not, start now!  If you want to order the book, you can order it at NewportChurch.com  Let me know your successes and your struggles.  We can do this!

Body & Soul: 2 Weeks Down, 4 to Go!

I was hoping to give you all an update last week, but it just didn’t happen!  I am 2 weeks into Body & Soul {just started week 3} and I am absolutely loving it!!!  I have lost 9 pounds!!  Woot woot!  But above and beyond that, I feel great!  I feel full… like.. all. the. time!  I have much more energy, and my walk with God is growing as well.  I use my time on the elliptical to read my One Year Bible {which I am falling more in love with every day} or I use my time walking outside to pray!

What I love most about Body & Soul is that it is about freedom.  It is not a fad diet, or an easy way to lose weight fast.  Some people are not losing as fast as I am and some are losing more.  This book is giving you a new lifestyle.  It helps you turn your body into a fat burning, muscle building machine.  I want to be strong and healthy for my children and eventually for my grandchildren.  I don’t want to wake up in my 50’s or 60’s thinking, “I wish I would have changed back then.”  Every single thing we do, is our choice.  We have the choice to feed our bodies healthy food, that God has made.  We have the choice to take the first step out that door for a walk. What choices will you make today that will affect the rest of your life?

Here are some of my favorite things I’ve learned over the past 2 weeks:

  • Eat the right foods, often and you will burn more fat
  • Drink at least 60 oz of water each day
  • Establish your enemies {food, lies, etc.} and “pull the trigger” as Parker Green would say 🙂
  • Weight training is the quickest way to burning fat and building lean muscle

These are just a few of the many things I’ve been learning through Body & Soul.  I HIGHLY recommend this book.  Whether you have weight to lose, weight to gain, or just want to live your best life.  This book is wonderful for EVERYONE.  It has a weight loss meal plan and a goal weight meal plan.  Like I said before, it’s not a diet, but a lifestyle.  It also comes with some tasty recipes!  You can go to NewportChurch.com to get your own copy.  Join me in this lifestyle!  I promise you won’t be disappointed… unless of course you cheat 😉

If you do buy the book and start this new life, please let me know!  It helps to know there are others on the journey that you can talk with and encourage!
