My New Favorite Album :: Zion by Hillsong United

I finally downloaded the new Hillsong United Album, Zion.  It is amazing!  Of course, I expected no less. I highly encourage you to download it too.

My favorite song is Oceans (Where Feet May Fall).  I can’t even explain it, it’s just so peaceful and such a beautiful portrayal of our relationship with Jesus.

30 Days to a Healthier You, Day 26: Give a Little Bit

Being healthy is all encompassing.  It’s not just about the food we eat or our exercise program.  Helping others can be extremely beneficial to our overall well-being.  It is in our DNA to be helpful.  God tells us in the bible to care for the widows and the orphans.  It’s all around us. To ignore it, is not only doing the people who need us a disservice, it’s a disservice to ourselves.

Volunteering, community service, or even just helping out a friend who is in need is something we all should be doing on a regular basis.  Volunteering and helping others can increase your overall sense of well-being which in turn can help relieve feelings of depression.  I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about here.  Any time you help someone, it feels good.  And I’m not talking about doing this for yourself.  I’m talking about, when you see the joy and relief that floods someones eyes, when you’ve helped them.  It feels good to know you are a part of making this big planet what it’s meant to be.

We have the opportunity to serve every Friday with our church.  We have a ministry called “Food With Love” where we go into a  community that is on 98% school lunch and give them groceries to take home on Fridays.  This ministry has fed over 8,000 people in just 15 weeks.  It’s been such a blessing for so many people and it’s so nice to know we’re making a difference.  Imagine if everyone gave just a little bit.  What a difference it would make in our world.  Stop looking around and feeling bad for people.  Do something!

We are all here for a reason.  What are you passionate about that you can bless someone else with?

2012 Goals Update

Just wanted to give you all an update on my 2012 goals!  Things are going great so far!  A few little failures, but I’m not giving up.  What are your goals for 2012?

Live the Body & Soul Lifestyle –  Going strong!  You can read my most recent update here.

Drink 6 water bottles a day – Yep!

Walk 4 – 5 times per week – I have continued with this and am changing to 3 days walk or elliptical and 2 days weights

Weekly or Bi-Weekly Menus – I have failed at this! But, that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up!

Read 2 Books each month – Done with Body & Soul.  Very little left of It’s Time.  I am loving It’s Time and will probably re-read it a little slower.  It’s 101 to change your life so I think I’ll maybe read 1 per day to really let it soak in!

Be more involved in ministry – Got Parker into the Jr. High group which makes me extremely happy and extremely sad.  How can I have a Jr. Higher??

Attend Sisterhood Weekly – Yep!

Coupon Binder – Tossed TONS of expired coupons and clipped new ones.  Now I need to get them in the binder!

Complete 12 DIY projects – Haven’t completed January’s but I do have the supplies… maybe I’ll get it done this week 😉

Write my eBook!!! – Ideas are being jotted, lots of brainstorming going on here

Date Night – At least once a month with the hubbs! – We’ve actually been on a few thanks to our last minute trip!

Continue to Tithe Weekly – Yep!

Increase our Emergency Fund to $5,000 – Barely getting by right now, but work should be picking up soon so we can get this tackled!

And, my one big “dream” – My, “If only we could,” is to go to Europe.  Still in talking phase but at least the hubs knows that I am very serious and we are going to make this happen!

Body & Soul Update: Week 3 Complete!

So far, so good!  I cannot emphasize enough, how much I am loving Body & Soul!  It is changing my life, one day at a time.  I have NEVER felt this good, this strong, this committed!  It really is a lifestyle and it really does work!  I am down 10 pounds { Hubs is down 11} and feel amazing. My hubby and I had a last minute trip to Las Vegas and stayed on track.  We even hit the gym at 7:30 am {pictured above}!  There is no fad diet in this world that could make you feel as good as I feel right now.  I strongly encourage you to join me on this life long journey.  Whether you need to lose weight, gain weight, maintain weight, or just get healthy, Body & Soul will work for anyone.

I am continuing my workouts 4-5 times per week.  I’ve actually replaced 2 of my cardios with weight training.  We don’t have a gym membership, but I have a set of resistance bands and a few weights that are working just fine.  Weight training will keep your body in fat burning mode for up to 24 hours {while cardio will actually only burn for a max of 12}.  I also learned from our trainers that you shouldn’t do weights right after your cardio workout.  When you do your cardio, you are using all of your “fuel” which will cause your muscles to use themselves as fuel instead of using fat.  My schedule is not conducive to 2 workouts per day so I have decided to do my cardio Monday Wednesday Friday and my weights Tuesday Thursday.  Plus, we usually throw in something physical with the whole family on Saturdays.

It really isn’t as hard as you think to fit some workouts into your schedule.  I think the “I don’t have time” excuse is a little wimpy actually!  We ALL have the exact same amount of hours in a day.  We ALL have 168 hours per week.  I’m pretty sure there are some time wasters you can get rid of to exercise.  If I exercise a max of 4 hours in one week, I still have 164 hours to do whatever else I want or need.  It’s time to stop excusing yourself and get your body moving!  Remember, with God, all things are possible!

They key things I took from our session last night are:

Keep your mind fit above all else.  If your focus is on God and truth, you can stay disciplined with your health.  Your body was not meant to have authority, your mind was.  If you give your mind the authority instead of making your decisions on feelings you will succeed!

You also need to “pay the cost up front.”  This means you need to have a why.  It needs to fuel your fire.  You need to make these decisions for the people around you.  You cannot do God’s work and take care of those you love, if you aren’t fit and healthy.  One of our trainers, Parker, put it this way, “How much energy will it take to lift someone who is more broken than you?”

Write it down!!  Write your workouts down on your weekly schedule.  It gives you the feeling of commitment and you’re more likely to actually follow through with it!

Blessings From Above

Hubby and I are currently driving home from 2 days in Las Vegas… an unexpected blessing smack in the middle of a somewhat crazy week. Now, you might be saying to yourself, “Vegas? A blessing? Why would God bless someone with Vegas?”

Last week we celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary! 15 years people! Can I get an amen?! We didn’t really have any money to go anywhere special so we went to Disneyland {with our annual passes} and then out to the beach. We said we’d just celebrate another month when we could afford it. We really were ok with nothing fancy. We honestly just love being together and we LOVE the beach!

Meanwhile, we’ve been growing spiritually and becoming more involved in our church. Among other things, we’ve given God control of our finances and we’ve been tithing regularly. Every week, when we feel like there’s no way the numbers will work, God blesses us above what we’ve given. I’m not telling you all this to say “Look at me!” I’m telling you because it’s a much more fun ride when you’re on the right side of the fence. A life of faith and obedience is so worth it because God has way more resource than we do! We have also been part of a 21 days of prayer and fasting {2 days left!} with our church. We’ve been seeing revelation, wisdom, and favor throughout this journey.

Fast forward to Tuesday afternoon. I get a call from Ryan, my hot hubby, saying to find a sitter because we’re going to Vegas! What??? Yes, Ryan’s boss was sending him overnight to a convention and told him to take me. Not only that, we were put up in a fancy suite & our meals were paid for! Thank you, Jesus!! We got our getaway that we were patiently waiting for and we didn’t even have to wait that long! And, in case you’re wondering how our fasting went, we stuck to it {since we are doing Body & Soul, we decided to fast alcohol and television} I had a few people ask me if we were going to cheat and I said, “No way!” it would have been a slap in the face to God. I couldn’t do that to a God who loves me so much and continues to bless me beyond my dreams! God is in the little things just as much as He’s in the big!

Our time was short but very sweet! With 3 kiddos, work, homeschool, blogging & more, we’ll take any alone time we can! How has God blessed you lately?
