Oh Kmart, I Think I Like You ♥

I absolutely love when businesses can push the limit a little in order to create some buzz. Kmart is definitely not a favorite store of mine. I actually don’t even know where the closest one is to me now that I’ve moved. We have a Target literally across the street so there’s no reason for me to waste my gas and go anywhere else.  But, this new commercial kind of makes me want to go to Kmart!

Good on you Kmart! I hope your business grows and your customer service improves as much as your advertising has!

A Month Off :: A Trip Down Under, A Trip Up North & Some Birthdays To Boot

Australia_0152

After taking a month off, I am happy to be back at it! I never really intended to take an entire month off, but it was definitely necessary. My last post was on February 28th! Yikes!

Australia_0005As some of you may know, my daughter and I won a trip to Australia. We left on March 3rd and I had every intention of starting back up when we returned. Right before we left for Australia we found out that my Grammy’s health was declining. When we returned from our amazing travels, we decided to head up to Northern California for a visit. I think I was home for 48 hours, which didn’t even allow time to unpack, and we were back on the road!birthday

It was a very brief trip, but a very sweet trip. We spent our time with family and had some precious hours with Grammy. It’s hard to say how long she has.  Could be soon, could be a year. But, I needed that peace of knowing I had time with her. We also celebrated two of my ninjas birthdays! Morgan turned 11 while we were in Sydney and Brody turned 8 yesterday. Notice the ghetto candles {lighters} because we didn’t plan well!

Australia_0434So, here’s a quick recap of our trip! Morgan and I won the trip of a lifetime from our church.  Our pastors are from Hillsong Church in Australia and they gave away a trip for 2 to the Colour Conference in Sydney.  Colour is the Hillsong Women’s Conference that is put on every year. It was incredible!  The conference was indescribable. It was life changing. It drew me closer to God and to my little girl. The entire trip was amazing.Australia_0086

We had a few extra days to see most of what Sydney has to offer. It is the most beautiful city! The weather was hot, but I’ll take that over cold any day! We saw the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, many gorgeous beaches and even spent a day with Morgan’s best friend!

Australia_0481

Morgan’s best friend is from Australia and was there at the same time. They picked us up in the city and took us out to where they are from. We went to see Koalas and Kangaroos and ate meat pies with them.  Morgan’s new fave!Australia_0473

I’ve spent many hours, since then, in the word and in prayer. I’ve been journaling and writing more and just focusing on the purpose that God has put me on this earth. There have been many contemplations over even continuing the blog. But, I do enjoy it. I love helping people save money. I love helping people stay healthy. I kept seeing random deals I wanted to share with you all but didn’t want the inconsistency of a post here a post there without letting you know what I was up to.

All that being said, I am continuing the blog. You may see less deals and more posts on how to actually save money with living a frugal lifestyle. Deals are great, and the savings definitely add up, but I just don’t have time to post EVERY. SINGLE. DEAL!

I hope you all had an amazing March and an even better Easter! I did miss you all and I’m glad to be back!!

And, by the way, my kids having birthdays is so bittersweet! They are growing up way too fast! I love seeing the little people they’re becoming and watching them grow. But my mama’s heart gets a little sad. I feel like they were in diapers yesterday!

My Big Book List For 2013 and a Link Up!

book-list-2013-2

I have big goals for my reading this year. I really want to grow and learn more and I feel like a huge part of that will come from reading books!  I have chosen books from a few categories so that I can hopefully be tackling 2 or 3 at a time without causing my brain to implode!

Spiritual

One Year Bible – I completed this last year and plan to do it every year forever. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.  I learned so much and every day got a little something different out of it. You can always do this with an app on your phone, but I like having the actual book and pages to flip. I love writing little notes and underlining important verses.

Q&A 5 Year Journal – I’m so excited about this book.  I’m not actually reading, just answering one question every day.  Then I’ll repeat that for 5 years. I’ll be able to look back and see where we were throughout the years. This has been on my wish list for quite some time and I’m so glad I got it!  You could easily catch up if you want to start this year!

Undaunted Daring to Do What God Calls You to Do – {not pictured}  I finished this book in the first few days of the year. Absolutely life changing!! I recommend this to ANYONE!

For This I Was Born – by Brian Houston. I’m several chapters into this book and have been journaling along with it. I am loving it and am so inspired to stay focused on the cause of Christ.

Anonymous – I’ve already started this one but got busy through the holidays and need to start over. I loved it so much and the first 4 chapters were so inspiring. The author of this book is actually speaking at our Imagine Conference this year!

It’s Time– In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple–then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard.

It’s Time – This book is written by my pastor Dianne Wilson.  I’ve read it before but plan on reading 1 chapter every couple of days. It’s full of so many truths and tips on being a Godly leader.

Wild at Heart – Although I am not a man, I do want to know more about my man and the two little men I’m raising.

Waking the Dead Just look at what happens when people are touched by Jesus—the blind see, the lame walk, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life. In other words, to be touched by God is to be restored. To become all God meant you to be. That is what Christianity is supposed to do for you—make you whole, set you free, bring you fully alive.

Parenting

Tender Mercies for a Mother’s Soul – I’ve actually read this one before but loved it so much that I want to go through it again. Sometimes moms get so caught up in caring for their families that they forget to care for their own souls. That’s why they need the encouragement and direction they’ll find in Tender Mercy for a Mother’s Soul.

Free to Be You – Dr. Robi Sonderegger – He has spoken at our church and I love all of his wisdom on parenting {and everything for that matter} Rather than offering the latest tricks, fancy techniques or most popular strategies typical of so many self improvement books, Dr. Robi tackles head on the hard-core issues faced by everyday people trying to make sense of their identity, purpose and self worth.

The Mission of Motherhood – Touching Your Child’s Heart for Eternity – No calling is greater, nobler, or more fulfilling than that motherhood. Every day, as we nurture our children, mothers influence eternal destiny as no one else can.

Loving Our Kids on Purpose Rather than the traditional approaches that train children to learn to accept being controlled by well-meaning parents and adults, this book teaches parents how to train children to manage their freedoms and protect their important heart-to-heart relationships.

Honey For a Child’s Heart – This book I have read and constantly use for reference. It gives you age appropriate reading for your kiddos.  A true gem!  I have not gone through it thoroughly in a while though, so I’d like to really dig into it again 😉

Business / Home Management

Organized Simplicity – I love this book! I went through it before we did our major downsize last year but feel it’s time to go through it again. Organized Simplicity’s aim is to convince its readers that simple living is the absolute best way to live.  Be it with house cleaning, family schedule management, personal finances, and managing the “stuff” you allow within your four walls, the only way to live well is to do so intentionally and simply.

168 HoursYou Have More Time Than You Think – Another one that I’ve read bits and pieces of. Gives you perspective on time and how we all have the same amount.

Platform – Get Noticed in a Noisy World – Hoping this one inspires me on the “business” side of my blog. To be successful in the market today, you must possess two strategic assets: a compelling product and a meaningful platform.

The Fire Starter SessionsA Soulful and Practical Guide to Creating Success on Your Own Terms

what i'm reading

I actually have more on my list but don’t actually have them in my possession yet.  We’ll see how quickly I get through these!  So what books are on your list this year?  I’d love to know!

Join Me in 100 Days of a New Year! Let’s Get Organized in 2013!

100-days-newyear

How are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions?  We’re only 2 weeks into 2013 and I’m guessing some of you have slipped.  It’s ok!  We’re human!  I’m happy to say that I’ve kept mine so far, but I didn’t set any goals that would be impossible for me to maintain.

One thing I do want to do this year is get more organized… Don’t we all want that?  I’m not Martha Stewart, and I know very few people who are.  In fact, I have visions of being like that and writing a wonderful book on being the best homemaker on planet earth, but I would be lying through my teeth!

Luckily, I’ve found Listplanit.com!!  I am a huge list maker myself.  I have lists all over my house for all sorts of things.  I’ve been a list maker as long as I can remember.  And the cute thing is, my daughter is one too!  I love watching her make her little lists, knowing she got that from me 😉

I will be starting this wonderful eBook, 100 Days of a New Year, on Monday!  I know it’s not the 1st, but I’m ready.  If I had tried on the 1st, I may have failed.  I hope you’ll all join me on this 100 day journey in the New Year and that this will hopefully bring peace to your mind and your life in 2013!

Head on over here to check out the eBook.  It’s a very small investment of $5 and you can print it out and keep it in a binder forever!

I hope you’ll get the book and join me on this journey!  I’ll be updating each week, how my progress is;  you too, can share your progress!

2013 // My Word For The Year // Some Goals and Inspiration

chalkboard_edited-3

Happy 2013!!  I’ve had a much needed break from the blog, and as much as I’ve seen things I’ve wanted to share and thought of things I should share, I’ve resisted and stuck to my break.  Our break found us in Northern California, and unfortunately, with the stomach flu.  From December 26th to December 31st there was at least one, if not more, of us with the flu… bleck!  This led to cancelled visits with dear friends, no fun holiday foods, and lots of sleeping.  Oh well… such is life!  I really can’t complain because we are NEVER sick!

2012 was probably one of the best years of my life so far.  We have found HOME with new friends and family at our church, grown spiritually and as a family, tested our faith, seen God’s miracles… the list goes on.  I know that His promises are all over His word for a reason and that is why I’ve chosen the word “Expectant” for 2013.  Not only do I believe in God and his promises, I am expectant for all He has for me and my family for this coming year!

Most of the “goals” I set for 2012 went kaput, but the ones that were most important to me, I kept.  I finished my One Year Bible and am into year 2!  This will hopefully remain an accomplished goal every year, for the rest of my existence on this planet!  I have also, for the most part, stuck to my diet and exercise.  Many of you followed me on my Body & Soul journey and I have stayed within 5 pounds of my ending weight for the year.  I still would love to lose about 10 pounds and that hopefully will come off before I head, with my daughter, to  the Coulor Conference at Hillsong Church in  Sydney, Australia!

Of course there are a lot of areas I’d like to improve, but one thing I’ve learned in 2012 is, the more I give to God and to His church, the more I have for my family and myself.  I know that this year I will accomplish more for His kingdom and no other area in my life will suffer because of it!  In fact, it will be the opposite, the rest of my life will flourish!

So here are my “goals” per se:

Read my Bible in a Year {and keep a journal}
Read more books
Write more
Play more
Get more organized in all areas of my life {one bite at a time}
Stay “Body & Soul” all year long

It can all be summed up in this beautiful quote that my pastor read in church this morning.  This is my goal in life, and it honestly is already heading in this direction.

So, what are your goals and dreams for 2013?  It’s not too late to start!

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

IMG_06551

I hope that this has been a year that has brought as much blessing to you as it has to me!  I have grown so much as a person, wife, mother, and friend.  I am so looking forward to 2013 and all that it will have in store for me and my family!  New goals, new dreams, always moving forward, one step at a time.

It’s time for me to take a little break from the blog and focus on the kiddos and Christmas.  Although, I’m sure if I find a super crazy deal, I’ll share it with ya 😉  We’re heading up to Northern California in a few days to be with family and friends and I have much to do to get ready.  Presents to wrap, laundry to do, animals to deal with, cookies to bake, hot cocoa to make, you know the drill!

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas!!
Love, Corie xx

around here…

As you may have noticed {or maybe not because you’re as busy as I am} I have been MIA for the past several weeks.  As if summers with 3 children aren’t busy enough, we threw in a relocation just to mix things up a bit!  We moved in the beginning of July to be be closer to our church and to the new “family” we are connecting with.

So here is what we’ve been up to and some pictures to tell the story 🙂

Parker, my firstborn, celebrated his 12th birthday during our move.  I tried to make it special in the midst of packing and moving.  He actually ended up with 4 celebrations I think, so I think it worked in his favor 😉  These pictures show him so well.  He is one of the coolest people I know!  He is passionate about everything, loves to laugh and to make others laugh, loves his family and loves music.

Just 2 days after our move, I flew up north to see Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney with one of my besties, Joni.  We have been to many Timmy shows together and just couldn’t fathom going without each other!  I flew up the day of the show, we drove out to Oakland, saw our boy, drove back to Sac, and I flew home the next morning.  A quick trip, but so worth it!

I’ve also added in training for the Susan G Komen 3 Day for the cure.  This will be my 3rd year and I can’t wait!  The kids ride while I walk.

July is Summer Loving Month at Newport Church and we have many outreach opportunities to get involved in.  We visited the elderly at Las Palmas and the kiddos sang a few songs then handed out cookies.  It was very sweet and of course everyone who lived there LOVED the kids.

We also did a makeover for one of the apartments at the Women’s Shelter that our church supports.  Morgan was my little helper and worked so hard ALL DAY LONG!  The apartment turned out beautiful and will be HOME to a woman and her 2 children for the next year.  What a blessing, to be a blessing!

Then, we headed up to Northern California for a friends wedding.  We went a few days early so that we could visit family and friends.  Brody drew this on the chalk board at my parents the first day.  I thought it was so sweet to know he could have drawn anything, and most of the time it would be army helicopters and people shooting each other, but he chose to write this.

We were able to spend 1 day at my parents, which the kids always love.  They live on 5 acres, so the kids can run and scream and be crazy without bothering anyone.

The rest of the week we spent at my Grammy’s who lives on a lake.  Brody became quite the fisherman that week {but didn’t catch a darn thing}.  He woke up early every morning and would stand on that dock forever!

We took the kids to Lake Tahoe for the day which was wonderful.  As much as I am NOT a fan of the mountains, Tahoe is so beautiful!  The weather in Nor Cal was extremely hot so it was nice to get to cooler weather and cool off in the lake!

This is the kids with Ryan’s Granny.  We love Granny so much!  She is hilarious and I hope I’m as fun to be around when I’m her age!

The reason we took the trip was to see our friend Molly marry the man of her dreams, Aaron.  Molly was our babysitter for several years and will always be considered a close friend.  We love you Molly and can truly see God’s hand in your marriage!

I was sooooo happy to get home to the hubs!!  A week away from him is much too long, actually even a day is.  I know, I’m such a sap!  What can I say?  I married the best and I don’t like to be away from him 😉

Parker made his debut at our Newport Church evening service last Sunday.  I am one proud mama!  Our whole Youth Worship Team took over for the night and it was amazing.  These kids are truly anointed by God and are going to do great things for the Kingdom!

And finally, I had to send Parker off to Youth Camp for the first time!  I was thrilled and so heart broken at the same time!  I know he is going to have a blast and I pray his life is changed forever.  I miss him dearly and can’t wait to see him.  I’m actually very jealous of the rest of the people there who get to see him have the time of his life!  I don’t like missing out on my kiddos milestones but I know the time has come that they will be doing many things without me 🙁

So, that’s been our last month, and now we are getting into school mode.  Today is the first WHOLE day since we moved that I have to focus on my house.  No where to go, no one to see, nothing else to do but unpack and organize!!!  Yipppeeeee!!!

How has your summer been?

Naturally Heal Common Ailments With Manuka Honey

A friend recently turned me on to Manuka Honey and I am oh-so-glad she did!  Funny how things work out… about 2 days after she told me about it, one of my kiddos came down with a sore throat and cold.  Off to Mother’s Market I went to get some Manuka Honey.

Manuka Honey is amazing!  Use it if you have a sore throat, cough, cold, even gastro-intestinal disorders such as acid reflux, upset stomach, stomach ulcers, peptic ulcer,  irritable bowel syndrome, and heartburn to name a few.  It can also be used on your skin for cuts, burns, acne and more!

From the research I’ve done, I’ve found that you need to buy Organic Manuka Honey that says, “16+” or higher.  The higher the number, the more potent.  Anything less is not going to have as efficient health benefits.  Just take 1/2 – 1 tsp. several times throughout the day if you’re sick or once a day to maintain health!   As a mom who wants to provide the best possible, natural, care to my children, I can honestly say that I felt like this helped my son get better quicker.  I like to avoid the Dr. as much as possible because I know they’ll just push antibiotics that I know our bodies don’t necessarily need 😉

The reason I chose Wedderspoon Raw Organic Manuka Honey:

North America’s number One Organically Certified Manuka Honey suppliers.  Their authentic, manuka honey is recognized throughout North America for its outstanding quality and consistency. Manuka Honey is know all over the world for its extraordinarily powerful healing benefits At Wedderspoon Organic, we bring you the finest in organic products because we know quality matters. We proudly support the OMA Mark (Organic Manuka Active) Chemical and Pesticide Free honey Antibiotic and GMO Free honey. Never feeding the bees sugar. Hives are made from environmentally friendly material. Each jar is traceable back to master beekeeper Area of forage is 5km from intensive farming. Activity in our honeys has been reached naturally & has not been increased by man.

I bought mine at Mother’s Market.  It is also available on Amazon and I’m sure other health food stores carry it.  I paid about $35 and that’s the price on Amazon.  I would imagine you don’t really want “cheap” Manuka Honey… you’ll be getting what you pay for!  It’s a decent size jar that will last us a long time!

Do you use Manuka Honey?  What ailments has it helped you with?

Thankful

Thankful…

Thankful.  That’s how I feel right now.  Sometimes I get discouraged and feel like maybe this blog isn’t worth my time and effort.  But, after today, reading all of your comments and well wishes, I know what I’m doing is right.  I feel passionate about it.  It burns in my soul.  I want to see people live their lives free of financial, physical, and spiritual burdens.  If I’ve helped just one person, then this is all worth it!  To know that there are several of you that appreciate the work and that it’s made an impact for the better in your life has just fueled my fire!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, each and every one of you!  Your comments and words of encouragement mean so much to me!
